Search and Add Course to your Plan

Course Search is a powerful tool available from either the Explore Courses tab or the sidebar from the Progress tab, Planner, Schedule, and the Registration cart. Use it to find and add courses to your academic plan. These instructions cover how to find a course from your planner.

  1. Navigate to your institution's Stellic login page and sign in with your credentials.

  2. Click Plan your Path from the left navigation panel.

  3. From the Plan your Path page, the screen is split into two sections: your planned semesters, and on the right, tabs for:

    • Remaining (unplanned requirements)

    • Progress (towards your program - this is identical to the Track Your Progress tab on the left navigation panel)

    • Search Courses

  4. Select Search Courses.

  1. Enter the keywords you want to search. Apply filters as necessary to find the best matches:

    • Semesters

    • Counts for

    • Instructor

    • Department

    • Attributes

    • Campus

    • Modality

    • Credits range

    • Catalog level

  2. Optional: Select the Only with cleared prerequisites checkbox for the search to filter for courses for which you have met pre-requisite requirements.

  3. After searching, you can sort results by Course Code or Title. For each result, you will see Course Code, Title, Credits, and Eligibility Status. You can toggle between List and Grid view to see:

    • Likely offered terms

    • Number of available sections

    • Campus

    • Instructors

    • Modality

  1. From the course search results, you can drag your desired course into your plan or click to see course details.

  2. From the course details view, select your Campus, desired Term, and then Add To Plan. The course has now been added to your plan and is visible in the planned term.

Course Information

Courses from the plan sidebar display different levels of at-a-glance detail.

At the top level:

  • Course name and code

  • Units/credits (with min/max range for variable credit courses)

  • Typically offered terms

  • Save button to add the course to the student's Remaining list

In the body of the course details:

  • Available sections

  • Topics and attributes

  • Instructors

  • Course description

  • Prerequisites, co-requisites, and anti-requisites

  • Repeat limits

  • Requirement fulfillment information

  • Equivalent courses

  • Available catalog levels

The display of this information adapts based on context:

  • If you are planning for a future term before schedules are out, Stellic shows catalog level details

  • If schedules are out for your selected campus and term, Stellic shows combined data from all applicable sections

  • If you have added a specific section to your plan, Stellic shows just the data for that section

Additionally, for taken and transferred courses, you can see:

  • Grades

  • Completed credits

  • Applicable tags and transfer notes

You can add courses directly to your plan from this information panel by clicking Add to Plan and selecting the desired campus and semester.

Find Course Sections

Browsing Available Sections

When you open a course, you'll see condensed section previews that show essential information at a glance. By default, only sections with available seats are displayed to help you focus on options you can actually register for.

Tip: To see all sections, including those that are full, click the Expand option below the section list.

Filtering Sections

You can narrow down your options using these filters:

  • Topic: Find sections covering specific course topics

  • Units: Select sections offering your desired credit amount

  • Sub-term: Focus on sections during specific parts of the term (sessions, etc.)

  • Level: View sections at your appropriate enrollment level

Working With Multi-Component Courses

Identifying Multi-Component Courses

If a course requires multiple components (such as a lecture plus a lab), you'll see a banner above the first group of sections indicating this requirement.

Automatic Component Linking

When you select a primary component (e.g., "Lec 002"):

  1. Stellic automatically selects a linked component (e.g., "Rct 301") if available

  2. The section list updates to show only components that are valid with your initial selection

  3. You can click on any other valid section to change your selection

Caution: If you select a component that isn't linked to your initial selection, you'll receive a warning that this will change your previously selected section.

Working With Linked Courses

Identifying Linked Courses

If a course requires you to take it along with one or more other courses in the same term, you'll see a blue banner above the list of sections indicating this requirement.

Automatic Course Addition

When you select a section of a linked course:

  1. Stellic automatically adds all linked courses to your plan

  2. Related courses will appear in your plan for the same term

Caution: If you remove the primary course from your plan, it will remove all of the linked courses as well.

  3. Note: When you select a different section, your previously selected section is automatically removed

A note about registration

For high-level planning, you can add or remove planned sections directly in the course planner. If your institution uses Stellic for registration, you will move from Plan Your Path into Schedule view to finalize your section selection. During active enrollment windows, the Schedule view allows you to:

  • Drop courses

  • Swap sections

  • Use Drop If Enroll functionality (when waitlist is supported)

These options vary based on your institution's configuration.
