Why is a course not counting?
Why is a course not counting?
Updated over 9 months ago

This article describes some of the things you can check to see why a course shows as not counting. If you feel a course is not counting and it should, please contact your advisor for help.

A red exclamation shown by a course that you have taken indicates the course is not counting for a requirement:

Some of the most common reasons a course is not counting include:

  • The course has no units/credits/points or no grade awarded

  • The course doesn't meet the minimum grade requirement

  • The course received a pass/fail grade. By default, 'passed' courses don't count, but the audit will allow it with a P/F constraint on the requirement

  • The requirement was already satisfied with a different course, or courses

Does the course meet the constraints (rules) of the requirement?

Every requirement has a set of constraints that a course must meet.
To view the constraints of a requirement, click the constraints button next to the title:

Is the course already fulfilling another requirement?

It's possible that the course is already counted for a requirement in your audit. By default, double-counting is not allowed unless specified in a constraint. You can search (using command+F on a Mac or ctrl+F on a PC) the course code on your Progress tab to see if it's already counted.

Does the course have an equivalent or anti-requisite?

It's possible the course has an equivalent or anti-requisite that is also in your record. In that case, this course won't be able to count. You can click on the course to view the course info sidebar and see if it has an equivalent or requisite.
