Audit Categories

Updated over 5 months ago

Overview

Create categories to group courses that follow the same constraints or offer student choices. Use clear, descriptive names like "Math Electives" or "Science Core" that students can easily understand. You can create subcategories to further organize course options.

Creating Categories

  1. Click Add First Requirement or Add More Sub-requirements

  2. Select Category

  3. Enter a descriptive name

  4. Click Add

  5. Click Edit to add your first constraint

Important: Requirements must have at least one constraint to be considered fillable.

After creating the category, you can:

  • Add specific classes directly within the category

  • Create subcategories for more complex structures

Example Structure

In a Science Core category:

  • Create Biology and Chemistry subcategories

  • Set Fulfill any constraint on subcategories (student needs one class from each subcategory)

  • Set Fulfill all constraint on the parent category (student must complete both Biology and Chemistry requirements)

Duplicating Categories

Save time by duplicating existing categories:

  1. Click Edit on the category

  2. Click Duplicate

  3. The system creates an exact copy (labeled with Copy in the name) at the bottom of the audit

You can:

  • Duplicate categories even before adding classes

  • Edit the duplicated category just like any other category

Using Shared Categories

Shared categories efficiently manage common requirements across multiple programs or departments.

Benefits

  • Create once, use in multiple audits

  • Centrally manage common requirements (like General Education)

  • Save significant time when building multiple audits

Adding a Shared Category

  1. Click Add More Sub-requirements

  2. Select Shared Category

  3. Search available shared categories from the list

  4. Select the appropriate shared category

  5. Enter a clear, descriptive name

  6. Click Add
